Just finished a fairly large sized project. It was VERY necessary considering how my original workbench was two sort of wobbly saw horses with a large slab of very thick plywood laying on top. Horrible for hand planning. Haha!
I looked around and decided that a good workbench was in order. After that thought I looked at some binged images of simple workbenches to get an idea of what to do.
Literally one day later I finished this.
The box you see underneath I also built myself. The wonderful hubby of mine built the shelf you see there. Every bit of wood you see there was free. If it didn’t come from a pallet then it came from a free stuff ad in Craigslist.
After building this project I would have to fully agree with what Ana White had on her Getting Started page. Screws are better than nails and countersink bits are amazing. We bought one made by Korg. It’s a countersink bit/Phillips head tip. You just slide The gold colored band and flip the tip. It’s great for efficiency. However I would invest in some extra Philips head tips. Ours broke when I was putting on the bottom shelf boards. Not a big deal. What’s better is that everything is able to be replaced (without buying the whole Korg piece again) if your drill bit or other tip breaks. The little piece to turn the locking screw is built right into it. Very handy!
Now I have a super sturdy workbench. I also put a little round hook on the inside of the right leg in order to hold the extension cord. Eventually I would like to attach a mounted surge protector specifically made for workbenches and such to the side of it.
The greatest thing about this bench is that you can easily add or modify it later down the road. Which I fully intend on doing once we get moved and situated.
Hope you enjoy!
Stay fit and happy DiYing π
