We just moved from a small 995 sq ft second floor apartment into a 1000 sq ft house. Still a rental but no more behind the wall neighbors! The square-footage may not seem like that big of a jump, except when you consider that the extra building out back with electric and the garage do not count as “living space” and thus is not counted into the square footage, it’s actually a pretty big place…. well…. big for me. Three bedrooms, a small but open kitchen, living room, den, and small “mud” area going out to the half an acre of fenced in back yard. The front yard is also partially fenced aside from one corner that we will probably get to fixing since it only needs two squares of chain-link fence and a gate to attach to the other gate.
Now I’m not bragging by any means when I say all that. This is still a rental and there’s still only so much we can do but we do have SIGNIFICANTLY more options here than at the old apartment.

When I started this website I posted photo’s of my craft space. This was back when we lived in Hawaii and I had more room. You can find that post here .
Now that we’re in a new place, and have been for a while, I get to have a different corner. Since this new apartment is significantly smaller (we’re talking 1600sq ft down to 995sq ft) I had to get a little creative with everything and even *gasp* downsize! Back in Hawaii I had an entire chest dedicated to fabric. It was a nice little chest and we still have it, however now it’s being used as part of the office . Which just means it has our printer sitting on it and it’s located beside the computer and it’s now being used to store a large amount of my husbands military gear.
Saddened by my sudden realization of how little storage space this small apartment has, I surfed the web and came across this gem of a post at MaryJanes and Galoshes. This was perfect! Continue reading
I wanted to post a few photos of my newly organized craft room.
The shelving and rug came from Home Depot and cost roughly about $50-60. However we also had to get a couple more things so it was actually a bit cheaper for just the shelves and rug. Little hint, wire shelving is complicated and expensive. So we got simple wood shelves.
The baskets came from the NEX. I was torn between a light muted green or this robins egg blue.
I warned you that this living room thing would be a slow process. Ha ha!
My husband and I finally got around to rearranging the space. I love it. It just seems to flow. Plus when I’m lounging on the couch I don’t have to worry about people peeking in through the window next to the front door without me realizing it. Yes, people in this state do that. Most Kirby sales people and the housing office people. It’s so rude and annoying, come to my house and you can knock on the door not stare at me through a window till I walk over. Now I just walk over and close the blinds when they do it. Rude maybe, but not as bad as them peeping into my home.
Ok, ranting over. Ha!
